Dr Roger Rassool, a senior lecturer in the School of Physics at Melbourne University explores different approaches to teaching electronics and photonics. He shows that questions about the physics underlying household devices can be used to engage students and promote discussion.
Demonstrations include:
• a model of sound transmitted optically (as used in movie soundtracks)
• internal reflection of light in water from watering can (first done 1841)
One of a series of lectures/demonstrations in the Advanced Physics Series for physics teachers produced in conjunction with the University of Melbourne.
